My Planter
Nature has the power to heal and recharge. With the aim of providing an opportunity to the students to learn how to make air purifiers the Club activity – My Planter was conducted on 28.01.21. Children were introduced to the concept of Planters, as air purifiers and shown an informative video which showcased how they can make beautiful planters at home. They made a beautiful planter and they also donated it to the community helpers in their neighbourhood. Such activities go a long way in encouraging the children to explore the plant kingdom and various benefits of plants for us. The activity was joyous experience for the children
Making a Healthy Salad Spread
‘He who has health has hope and he who has hope has everything.’
Salads form a very important part of our daily diet. With the aim to provide an opportunity to our young chefs to learn how to make a healthy salad spread, the Club activity – Making a Healthy Salad Spread was conducted on 24.12.20. Children were introduced to the concept of nutrition and its benefits. They were shown a tutorial video which displayed the recipe of the salad spread. The students made this healthy salad spread and then made delicious sandwiches which they shared with their house help and other community helpers in their neighbourhood. This activity encouraged children to eat healthy and nutritious food. It was a joyous experience for them.
Immunity Booster Drink
Staying healthy and keeping our immunity strong is of utmost importance. The students explored an ancient ayurvedic home remedy- Natural Immunity Booster(Kada) in the the Club activity – Immunity Booster Drink, conducted on 26.11.20. A video which apprised them of different kinds of herbs and spices was shared with the students. It also demonstrated the recipe of making Kada. After watching the video, the students made this healthy drink/concoction. They not only gave it to their family member, but also to their house help and other community helpers in their neighbourhood. The activity was joyous experience for the children.
Bird Feed
The students were apprised of the purpose and usage of a bird feeder in the activity. They were shown an informative video that showcased how the simple device is placed outdoor to attract a variety of birds to feed on it. After watching the video, the students made their own bird feeder using material easily available at home. They participated with enthusiasm and were thrilled to hang the Bird Feeder in their garden or balcony.
Rangoli Art
Rangoli is an ancient art and timeless tradition that is followed all over India. With the aim of providing an opportunity for the students to develop aesthetic skills and creativity, the Club activity – Rangoli Art was conducted on 24.09.20. The students were shown an informative video which apprised them of different types of flowers and highlighted their uses. After watching the PPT the students created beautiful Rangoli with vibrant colours using petals of a rose, marigold, jasmine etc. The students put up their artistic acumen on display and had a joyous experience.
The Art of Composting
The activity organized on 27.8.20 was aimed at sensitizing the students towards the need for segregation of waste and the importance of waste management. They were apprised of the various simple ways by which we can save our planet. A video listing the uses of compost was shared with the students. It also included a tutorial demonstrating how compost can be made at home using domestic and kitchen waste. The students followed the tutorial, made compost at home and shared videos and pictures of the same.
Young Green Warriors
Granny’s Evergreen Remedies - Herbal Mosquito Repellent
The Virtual Club Activity - Granny’s Evergreen Remedies organised on 30.7.20 focused on creating awareness about natural, home-made, herbal, eco-friendly, easy-to-make mosquito repellents. A video was uploaded on Connected Classrooms which apprised the children about the importance of plants in our life; introduced them to the medicinal properties of some plants like, basil, tulsi and lemon grass and how they repel mosquitoes naturally. It also demonstrated how they can create their own herbal products with granny’s tricks using easily available material at home. Through the activity, the children had a hands-on experience of making their own herbal mosquito repellent with lemon and cloves. They also made a liquid herbal mosquito repellent using an empty re-fill of mosquito repellent available in the market.
Fridays for Future
In the activity ‘Fridays for Future’, the students were first apprised about the importance of Earth Day and thereafter, they learnt to grow saplings using some common ingredients available in the kitchen, through a tutorial video posted on Connected Classrooms Portal. They also made posters and wrote slogans on the theme – ‘Save Mother Earth’.
