WORLD SOIL DAY
World Soil Day is celebrated every year on the 5th of December. On the occasion of the World Soil day, 5 December 2021, an activity was planned with the students of classes IX - XI focusing on raising awareness on the importance of soil as a natural resource and its key role in the ecosystem. A Google earth virtual trip, on ecosystems, was conducted for the students followed by briefing on the topics like- soil alkalinity, soil pollution and soil sustainability. As a follow-up, students prepared relevant flyers on ‘Soil Awareness’ using applications like- Canva, Microsoft flyer maker and Google docs.
VIRTUAL TRIP TO NASA INYTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION
Virtual field trips provide an opportunity to gain experience overcoming the physical limitations. With the aim to rejuvenate interest in science and have an immersive exposure, a virtual field trip to NASA’s International Space Station was organised for the students of class XII, on 1 June 2021.
FUN GAMES IN SCIENCE
A session on Fun Games in Science was organised for the students of class X on 27 May 2021. Three fun filled activities - Word Search, Pictionary, and Science Taboo- were conducted with the students. Important terms and different concepts were explained by students, breaking the monotony of textbook use for revision of science.
CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF FRUITS & VEGETABLES
Keeping abreast with UN’s declaration of 2021 as ‘International Year of Fruits and Vegetables’, Science Club organised an activity - ‘Food, Nutrition and Periodic Table’ for the students of class X on 20 May 2021. Discussion on favourite fruits and vegetables was done on padlet.com followed by a research on elements present in these foods. Students were asked to make a digital poster/ flash card using canva.com on any one of the following topics - Nutritional value of element and its atomic properties Or Food Security.
DEVELOPING SCIENTIFIC TEMPERAMENT -Welcome to the World of Scientific Discoveries
The activity, ‘Welcome to the World of Scientific Discoveries’ was organised for the students of class X on 13 May 2021. The activity aimed at developing scientific temper in students with emphasis on spirit of Observation and Inquiry. Active observation on scientific inventions that find use in day-to-day life such as mobile phones, CFLs, medicines etc. was done by students followed by a brainstorming session on padlet.com. A final presentation on the discovery of their choice including the story and scientist behind the discovery and its applications was made in the form padlet at padlet.com.
