Folktale from France

Me The Bookie club is designed to help children explore books from various fields, topics, and countries. They explored a folktale from France- The Amazing Old Mower in the activity conducted on 28.1.21. The folktale about a farmer and his three sons was narrated with the help of video.

As a follow-up activity, they were apprised of Pointillism Art – Special French Artform through a tutorial video. They tried their hands on the artform and made beautiful designs. The students also narrated the story in their own words and shared their videos.

Activity- Androcles And the Lion

‘Books aren’t just made of words. They are also filled with places to visit and people to meet.’

Me the Bookie Club aims at bringing less heard stories for the children. This year the theme is folktales from different parts of the world. This is how we can visit places and meet people. In December (24.12.20), a Roman Folktale, Androcles and the Lion was taken up. The story was narrated through a video. In the follow-up activity, the students were asked to enact like Androcles. They also made a gratitude card and gave it to the helpers in the neighbourhood.

 The Fisherman and the Genie

The story chosen for the month of November was a folktale of Arabia. The Fisherman and the Genie is one of the one thousand and one stories from the collection of stories - Arabian Nights. The story is about a poor fisherman who is unable to catch fish for many days. The story was narrated to the students through a video. They were asked to make two flash cards related to the story and narrate the story to some under privileged child in their neighbourhood.

Me the Bookie – The Monkey and the Turtle– Philippine Folktale (29.10.20)

 

The club endeavours to bring a heterogeneous collection of stories for students. A folktale from the Philippines was chosen for the month of October.  In the story, the monkey does not appreciate the actions and help lent by its friend, turtle, and takes undue advantage of it. The story was narrated through a video posted on the Connected Classrooms portal.

In the follow-up activity, the students learnt to make a hanging monkey.

Me the Bookie – Anansi and the Talking Melon – African Folktale 

The club endeavours to bring a heterogeneous collection of stories for students. An African folktale was chosen for the month of September.  Anansi is a popular character and it generally takes the form of a spider. In this story too, Anansi outwits the animals which are larger, heavier, and stronger than him. The story was narrated through a video posted on the Connected Classrooms portal.

As a follow-up activity, the students made a spider’s web using paper folding and narrated the story in their own words.

Me the Bookie – The Language of Birds

 

A Russian Folktale - The Language of Birds was chosen for the club activity organized on 27.8.20. The story, which is about a boy, Ivan who learns the language of birds was narrated and explained through a video. In the follow-up activity, the children learnt to speak a few words in Russian and made a bird using origami sheets.

Me the Bookie – Jungle Book 

Me the Bookie Club aims at escalating love for books in our young learners. In the Virtual Club Activity organized on 30.7.20, the students enjoyed a story from the collection of stories - Jungle Book written by the English author Rudyard Kipling. The story was about a boy named, Mowgli who is raised up by wolves. Mowgli learns self-sufficiency and wisdom from the animals living in the jungle. A video with the narration of the story with pictures was posted on the Connected Classrooms portal. The children watched the story and made a poster depicting and describing the different characters from the story.

Me the Bookie – Indian Folk Tale – The Drum 

The story explored by the students through the activity was an Indian folk tale, The Drum. A video with the story narration by the Club Master was posted on Connected Classrooms Portal. The story was about a poor boy who wished to have a drum. He gets the drum in the end by sacrificing the little gifts he keeps getting while playing.

As a follow-up activity, the students were asked to narrate a few sentences about what they dream to have or to be.
