Me The Bookie Club (2018-2019)

Gulliver's Travel by Johnathan Swift 

Me the Bookie  Club aims at exposing our young learner to different authors and their famous stories and thus transport them to lands unknown. In the club activity organised on 14.2.19 the students explored and read the famous story , Gulliver's Travel by Johnathan Swift. The story session was thoroughly enjoyed by all the students. The follow up activity was Picture Composition. The students of Class II  creatively described the pictures shown to them in their own words. While the  students of Class III beautifully sketched their imagination on paper and described it in their own words.

The Enchanted Land by Enid Blyton  

 

With an aim to instil  love for reading among our students , club activity organised in 24.1.19 exposed the students to yet another famous children’s author - Enid Blyton.

The Activity commenced with a  brief introduction about the writer and her popular books  such as- Famous Five,  Secret Seven and Noddy.

Her story - ‘The Enchanted Land’ was also narrated by the club master. Some other famous stories and series written by the author were listed and the students were motivated to read them. As a follow up activity the students made an attractive photo frame with a  picture of Enid Blyton.

The  Magic Drum by Sudha Murthy 

The students got an opportunity to learn about the famous Indian author Ms. Sudha Murthy in the activity conducted on 22.11.18. The activity began with a brief introduction about the author and a glimpse of her popular book - 'The Magic Drum’.
The seed of truth, an interesting story from the book was  narrated to the students with the help of the Smart Board. New words and their meanings were highlighted and explained for vocabulary enhancement of the students. They also made a Word Wall using the new words learnt.
The other books and short stories written by Sudha Murthy were listed  by the teacher and the students were motivated to read them.

Bookasura by Arundhati Venkatesh 

The students learnt about  the famous Indian author Arundhati Venkatesh in the activity conducted on 25.10.18. After a brief introduction about the author and the books written by her they explored the story Bookasura written by her. The story was narrated to the students through the Smart Class and the character sketch of the different characters in the story was discussed. As a follow up activity they solved a word grid puzzle based on the story and made sketches of the different characters from the story. The activity was thoroughly enjoyed by all the students and they enthusiastically participated in it.

The Enormous Crocodile’ by Roald Dahl 

The club activity conducted on 20.9.18 provided the students an opportunity to explore the British author Roald Dahl who is famous for his children’s books. After a brief introduction about the author the students were shown the story ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ written by the author. The students enjoyed watching how all the animals in the jungle joined together to put an end to the wicked schemes of the
greedy crocodile who liked to trick young children and eat them up.
In the follow up craft the students made a crocodile using paper plates.
The other famous stories written by the author were also listed and the students were encouraged to read them.

The Cherry Tree by Ruskin Bond

Ruskin Bond , the Indian author of British descent was explored by the students in the activity conducted on 23.08.18. His famous story - ‘The Cherry Tree’  was narrated and read by the students. The story which describes the struggle of a cheery seed before it grows into a cherry tree was thoroughly enjoyed by them. As a follow-up activity , they made bookmarks with drawings  related to the story. The students were also suggested to read some other stories written by Ruskin Bond such as - ‘The Blue Umbrella’ , ‘Rusty’ and ‘The Room on the Roof’.

Kabuliwallah by Rabindranath Tagore

 

In the club activity organised on 19.7.18 the students got an opportunity to explore the Indian author , Rabindranath Tagore.

After a brief introduction about the author the students were shown the story - Kabuliwallah on the smart board. The video was thoroughly enjoyed by all. As a follow up activity the students made attractive book covers of the story read. A list of other stories written by Rabindranath Tagore was also provided to the students and they were motivated to read them.

The Tin Soldier by Hans Christian Anderson

In the activity conducted on 19.4.18 the students read and explored the story - The Tin Soldier by Hans Christian Anderson. The activity commenced with a brief introduction about the author. To arouse interest in students, the club masters listed a few famous stories written by the author which includes the story -Ugly Duckling , one of the lesson in Class I English text book. The story Tin Soldier which is about a tin soldier’s love for a paper ballerina was narrated to the students with the help of a video. The students of Class II brought the story characters to life through the follow up activity and created their own tin soldier using an empty soda can & other craft material. Students of Class III made paper bags and created their own hand puppets and cheerfully narrated the story in their own words.

To conclude the activity the club masters provided a list of books by the author and motivated the students to read them.
