Literary Club (Session 2021-2022)

LET’S CELEBRATE BOOKS, READING AND MUCH MORE …

Reading helps students to discover new things, develops creativity, critical thinking, vocabulary and the ability to express both verbally and in writing. To further the Reading Initiative by CBSE/ Ministry of Education,  the Literary Club of the Primary Department – GR Campus conducted an enriching activity  “Literary Calendar” for our young readers. 

Literary calendar is used to mark the Authors’ birthdays and important Literary dates and events. The students found out about two renowned writers/poets born in the month allotted to them and prepared a literary calendar and marked their birth dates. The activity helped students to gain knowledge about some of the important literary works and created their interest in reading.

LETTER TO SANTA

The Literary Club  organised an exciting activity to provide an opportunity to the  young learners to write letters to Santa to fulfil their wishes. Santa Claus is one of the sweetest beliefs that children grow up believing. They build their Christmas plans around the visit from the sweet, happy old man in the red suit who comes down the chimney and surprises them with wonderful gifts. Children wrote letters to Santa Claus as a part of the Christmas tradition and shared their wish list along with some colourful pictures. The aim of the activity was to hone their writing skills and to enhance the usage of appropriate vocabulary  to convey their thoughts. They also made use of  substitute words for phrases beginning with very that they have been learning through the Vocabulary Enrichment Program.

A TRIBUTE TO THE FATHER OF THE NATION

Literary Club of Primary Department conducted an activity “A Tribute to Father of the Nation” to mark the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti. Students created posters to pay fitting tributes to Gandhiji wherein they wrote the famous sayings by him and showcased his life and the places and things associated with him through beautiful illustrations. Students were motivated after reading and understanding the teachings by the Father of our Nation and participated in the activity with zeal and enthusiasm. 

BOOK COVER DESIGNING

An E-Book front cover design competition was organised in the month of November 2021. Students were instructed to submit one entry which was self designed, original and visually appealing. I position was shared - Abhilasha Thakre and Simar Narang. II position was bagged by Anadyaa Ghai, Kavya Bhatia , Saisha Narang and Twisha Oberoi and III position was shared by Anushri, Bhavika and Dharvi Atri.

INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY 2021

“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” To mark the International Literacy Day, a special assembly was organized in the Middle Department on 8 September 2021. The students of class VII F in collaboration with the Literary Club presented an array of activities emphasizing the importance of literacy in building a literate and sustainable society.

LIFE HISTORY OF RENOWNED WRITERS OF INDIA- A Research Based Activity 

A research-based activity was conducted on the topic of ‘Life History of the Renowned Writers of India’ from 3 -13 August 2021. The Club members prepared PPTs on important literary figures like Sumitranandan Pant, Maithili Sharan Gupta, Mahadevi Verma. They explained the personal characteristics, literary career, the importance of Hindi literature and awards through their presentation. The activity enabled them to unearth the literary richness shared by the writers and came up with a vast canvas full of colourful knowledge and vibrant information.

 

SHLOKA ACTIVITY 

Honing the skills of students with soulful rendition of shlokas was the aim of the club The participants prepared a short video reciting different, relevant shlokas along with the translation promoting mother tongue.

ART INTEGRATION ACTIVITY 

With an aim to engage the students of classes VI-VIII in creative pursuits, the club organised literary activities integrated with art and craft. The students of class VI created posters, letting one’s knowledge become a building block for another. Vivid pictures on the poem ‘Daffodils’ were drawn by the students of class VII outlining the treasures of nature and class VIII crafted blurbs based on the selected reading pieces.

CELEBRATING CONTRIBUTIONS OF LITERARY GIANTS

In the month of June, an activity to celebrate the contributions of Guru Rabindranath Tagore and William Shakespeare was organised for the students of class IX & X. The purpose was to focus on two literary giants, one from England and the other from India and make it a truly global activity.

BOOK TALK

A book talk session on the book, ‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell was conducted in the month of May 2021.Session was open for students of class XD, XE and XF. In total, 72 students attended this session.

CELEBRATING HUMOUR IN LITERATURE

A fun-filled activity, ‘Humour in Literature’, was organised for the students of class IV, from 10 April-3 May 2021. Students were asked to recite the humorous poem, ‘A Bad Case of Giggles’, by Bruce Lansky. The main aim of the activity was to enable students to appreciate the wit and wisdom of the great poet along with their artistic presentations.

CELEBRATING WORLD BOOK & COPYRIGHT DAY

The World Book and Copyright Day was celebrated in the month of April 2021. The students from classes VI-VIII participated in numerous activities and presented enriching PPTs, videos, suggested reading slides and posters depicting the significance of the day.
