Visit to National Agricultural Science Museum

 

A visit to the National Agricultural Science Museum (NASM), situated in the National Agricultural Science Centre Campus of ICAR ,New Delhi was organised for the students of Classes II & III under the aegis of the Hamaari Bagiya Club on 14.2.19.
The students through the 150 exhibits displayed in 10 major sections got an insight into the six pillars of agriculture-  Agriculture in Prehistoric Era, Indus Valley Civilisation, Vedic and Post Vedic Agricultural Science in Independent India, Universal Issues related to agriculture and Golden future of Indian Agriculture. They also visited the exclusive kids section in the museum which portrayed the scientific phenomenon involved in agriculture, digital explanation of photosynthesis, models of water cycle, food pyramid, balanced diet, animal husbandry and process of farming. They were also made aware about the process of production of sugar, tea, chocolate, silk etc. The visit made learning easy and was a joyful experience for the children which will be imprinted in their memories forever.

Healthy Platter

 

‘Healthy mind resides in heathy body’ The quote aptly describes the importance of healthy food in our lives. Keeping the above thought  in mind the club activity organised on 24.1.19 aimed at sensitising the students towards the need to eat healthy to stay fit and active. The students made Sprouts Salad using ingredients like sprouted moong, chopped cucumber, tomatoes, pomegranate etc  , seasoned with a pinch of salt & chat masala and tossed with lemon juice to give it a tangy taste. The little chefs beamed with joy and excitement and creatively displayed their Salad Platter.

My Bird Feeder 

 

The students were apprised of the purpose and usage of a bird feeder in the activity conducted on 22.11.18. They were shown videos which displayed  how the simple devise is  placed outdoors to attract a variety of birds to feed on it. After a live demonstration by the teacher they made their own bird feeder using material like an empty cardboard roll, ribbon, honey and grains. The students participated with enthusiasm and were thrilled to hang the Bird Feeders in the school  garden. The sight of birds around the Bird Feeder made them brim with joy and excitement.

My Floral Arrangement  

 

The students were apprised of the uses of different flowers in the activity conducted on 25.10.18. The significance of flowers and rangoli during festivals was also  discussed.

The students worked in groups and  made flower rangoli and patterns using petals of rose, marigold, jasmine etc. They creatively made attractive designs which included Om, Swastik, Diya and geometrical patterns in vibrant colours. All the students participated enthusiastically and thoroughly enjoyed the activity.

Leafy Art 

 

The students showcased their creativity and made  beautiful patterns with leaves of different shapes and sizes using the technique of spray painting and wrote thought provoking quotes on importance of trees in the activity conducted on 20.9.18. The activity was aimed at
sensitising the students towards the role of trees in our life. This was followed by an interactive session wherein the students were apprised of different uses of leaves in our day to day life.

Appetising Gulkand

 

The aim of the activity organised on 23.08.18 was to apprise the students of uses of different flowers with special focus on rose. The health benefits and medicinal use of rose flower was highlighted through a video. The health benefits of the Gulkand or Rose Petal Jam which is prepared with rose petals and sugar powder were also listed and discussed. The students prepared the Ayurvedic Preparation under the guidance of the Club Masters. They were excited to take it back and serve it to their family and friends. The activity was a joyous experience for them.

My Planter

 

In the activity conducted on 19.7.18, the students made colourful and attractive planters using old plastic bottles, tin cans, earthen pots etc. They showcased their  creative skills and decorated the planters using acrylic paints and other decorative material. The importance of various indoor plants which can be used to purify air at home was also discussed.

Earth Day Celebration

A special Earth Day activity was organised for the students of class II and III under the aegis of Hamari Bagiya Club on 19.4.18. The activity commenced with a garden tour to familiarise the students with the different types of plants. This was followed by an interactive session wherein importance of plants in our life was highlighted and green house effect was explained.

The activity also included a plantation drive and saplings were planted by the students with the help of the school gardener.

As a follow up activity the students made posters with their hand prints on A3 sheet and wrote slogans on the theme ‘Save Earth’. The slogans were recited by the students and the club masters elaborated & explain their meaning. The activity concluded with a discussion on the need to judiciously use the natural resources and do our bit to save the Planet.
